“Another Tuesday, another tax show. Every iteration of the Democrats’ resurrection of Measure 97 is a failed, flawed proposal that is reminiscent of a scripted reality show. While it makes for good political drama, it doesn’t make for good policy. Think about it this way, a gross receipts tax makes even the simplest things in life more expensive. Baby formula, coffee, medicine, literally everything, is subtly made more expensive. Consumers don’t see the spiked costs in blaring red numbers, they feel it though at the grocery store and at the pharmacy and at the gas pump. There are not the legally required votes for a gross receipts tax in this caucus because it is an outdated, hidden sales tax that Oregonians just massively defeated.”
