Calls Democrat Behavior Disgraceful, Urges Wyden, Merkley to Fix Problems Instead
SALEM, OR – Oregon Republican Party Chairman Bill Currier issued this statement tonight following President Trump’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress earlier this evening.
“Tonight, President Donald J. Trump delivered a powerful and moving address to Congress and the American People that outlined an optimistic and bold vision for our country that transcends party lines. President Trump has been fulfilling the promises he made to the American people at a record-setting pace. This evening, he expanded on his plans to pass an aggressive agenda that will solve real problems for real people, make sure every American has an opportunity for a good job, and put our nation’s security first,” said Chair Currier.
“The President said tonight that ‘the challenges we face as a nation are great, but our people are even greater’ and we couldn’t agree more,” added Currier.
“That is the kind of optimistic, can-do, unifying message that the American people have been waiting to hear. It was very presidential and made a very persuasive case for his policies and for unity in serving the American people.”
“The cynical scowling and booing by some Democrat lawmakers during the President’s speech was disappointing and disgraceful,” noted Chair Currier. “It seems that some in ‘the swamp’ are unhappy that President Trump has come to shake things up and put the citizens of our great nation back at the top of the priority list once more.”
“Our President reminded us once again to remember the forgotten citizens of America who are just looking for a ‘fair shot for their children, and a fair hearing for their concerns.’ Working together to ‘free the dreams of the people’ and achieve great things is not ‘too much to hope’ for. Ensuring the safety, security, and prosperity of the American people is ‘not too much to ask.’”
“It is my sincere hope that Oregon’s Democrats, especially Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, will join with President Trump to help fix the problems of this country and Make America Great Again.”
