Greg Walden: Oregon Band of Brothers a tremendous service organization devoted veterans

Walden meets with Bend Band of Brothers

Helping our nation’s veterans is one of the highest honors I have as your representative in the U.S. House. I had the great privilege of joining a weekly chapter meeting of the Oregon Band of Brothers — where more than 100 veterans packed Jake’s Diner in Bend. The Oregon Band of Brothers is a tremendous service organization devoted to providing veterans with the opportunity to share friendship, camaraderie, and assistance. I’ve been to several chapter meetings of the Oregon Band of Brothers, and it was great to see the level of turnout at Monday’s meeting.

Serving those who’ve served — like the veterans with Bend Band of Brothers — is a top priority of mine in Congress. In the House, I worked with and supported my friend Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers on the Faster Care for Veterans Act, which was signed into law by President Obama last month. This bill requires the VA to incorporate self-scheduling technologies for veterans to get appointments with their doctors — just like the ones you see in the private sector. This is a commonsense proposal that will get veterans faster, more efficient care that fits THEIR schedule.
