Endorsement based on input from VFW leaders in Oregon, strong support of veterans, national security/defense and military personnel issues; Walden to attend news conference in Redmond, Saturday, October 11.

In a letter to Walden, Director of the VFW-PAC Larry Rivers wrote, “In addition to comments received from VFW leaders in your state, this endorsement is based on your strong support for veterans, national security/defense, and military personnel issues.”

The VFW-PAC is the nation’s only major Veterans Service Organization PAC. VFW-PAC provides 2.2 million members of the VFW, its auxiliaries and their families, with an opportunity to collectively support candidates for federal office. VFW-PAC endorses only those candidates for federal office who support our nation’s veterans and stand in support of a strong national defense.

“It’s a great honor to receive the VFW-PAC’s strong support. We owe our very freedom and way of life to those who wear and have worn our nation’s uniform,” said Walden. “It’s our duty to make sure the government keeps its promises to them at all times, including when they leave the military and may need our help the most.”

Past State Commander of the VFW, Merle Jackson, who is the Post Legislative Officer and State VFW-PAC Chair, and Jeff Casserly, Post Commander, will join Rep. Walden at a news conference Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Redmond VFW Post 4108 (1836 SW Veterans Way at 10:30 a.m.).

Greg Walden has been a strong supporter of the needs of veterans and their families. Among his many initiatives, he helped lead the effort to save the Veterans’ Administration’s Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics from closure, protecting health care for nearly 14,000 veterans. Walden has also strongly supported the opening of new veterans’ health clinics in Central, Eastern and Southern Oregon, and backed legislation to expand the G.I. Bill to provide veterans with improved educational benefits similar to those provided to World War II veterans.

Greg Walden represents Oregon’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, which is comprised of 20 counties in eastern, southern, and central Oregon. He is running for re-election.
